Upgrade Your Knee Before You Upgrade Your Bike

In order to achieve balance in the Force, you must get out there and pedal more. Lagging behind friends on long rides?
“Secret training, you must.” Just don’t let your friends catch you.

Biking to work is not secret training, but an effective way to remind your leg muscles how to pedal and the muscle memory seem to remember how it is.

Small tweaks to upgrade your bike is to change your chainring. Running a Shimano or SRAM, or whatever you have, you can bump up to two more teeth.
For example, your MTB stock midring runs a 32 teeth, dial it up to 34 teeth.
Doing road? Add two more teeth to your big ring.

Small difference? Big improvement.

Most chainrings are aftermarket parts which you tweak but nobody gives notice. It is like pimping the engine of your vehicle. Tuners would understand that. Those two little teeth could bump up 50 more horses under the hood. But that’s tuner lingo and we don’t know that. All we know is that we got to ride harder and stronger.
I guess that’s what matters.
