Had the opportunity to visit Northern Mindanao, Philippines.
I realized how rich with natural resources this archipelago is.
Our group landed at Cagayan de Oro airport and we had breakfast at the Ultra Winds Mountain Resort. The view was wonderful and the wind was blowing strong. The road up to the resort was not a joke. Only for the true climber.
We then sped off to the del Monte clubhouse to eat some glorious steak. The steak was so big and juicy, the essence of everything is still there. We took some pictures by the pineapple fields which basically supplied pinya to the whole of the Philippines (plus more). This is the source of the margarita…
After eating the sweet pineapples, we rode off to the Mangima Nature reserve to have our bike fix. Renax Lim and the Bike Lab boys were there to greet us and even Mayor Clive Quino graced the enduro park.
The local bikers explained to us that the nature reserve was formerly a 4 x 4 trail, but now, they converted it into a Mountain bike park.
The people are very friendly and accommodating in Bukidnon. Everyone was always ready to help, and the Philippine hospitality was prevalent in the local community. We went to the Talaandig tribe and met Waway Saway, the chieftain. He introduced us to the artists and musicians from the tribe. We got close with Balugto, the soil painter. He used soil collected from different parts of the Kitanglad mountain range.
We went to a number of fabulous spots around Bukidnon and the view from these places were simply breath taking.
Please do enjoy the pictures.
So, if you are into cross country, enduro or downhill biking, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro have a lot to offer! The place is very bike friendly and the local tourism is very supportive of the cycling programs around the region.
